Case 1: This app uses cPanel API to install free SSL certificates. So, if your web hosting control panel is NOT cPanel and you have an option to install SSL certificate, this app doesn’t install SSL automatically. However, you’ll be able to install the free SSL certificate yourself manually.

ZeroSSL and Let's Encrypt both offer free 90-day SSL certificates. Starting the SSL certificate creation process above will allow you to create one or multiple free SSL certificates, issued by ZeroSSL. Like Let's Encrypt, they also offer their own ACME server, compatible with most ACME plug-ins. Private Keys are generated in your browser. GoDaddy doesn't come with an automatic free SSL certificate, instead you need to purchase one from the above link. The cheapest one is $70.00 per year, while a wild card SSL costs $295.99 on the first year and $369.99 when you renew.

Case 2: If your web hosting control panel is cPanel but the SSL installation feature is DISABLED, you need to contact your hosting provider for SSL installation.

In either case, all the processes (Let’s Encrypt™ account registration, domain validation, issue or renew of free SSL certificate) are automated except the installation. You’ll receive an automated email if a free SSL certificate issued or renewed. The email contains the path details of the SSL certificate, private key, and CA bundle. You can install the SSL certificate yourself manually (for case 1) or with the help of your web hosting service provider (for case 2).

As a security best practice, we recommend not to download the SSL certificate, private key and CA bundle. Instead, please copy the path details from the automated email and send it to your web hosting service provider (for case 2).

We get a lot of questions about how to use Let’s Encrypt on GoDaddy. If you useGoDaddy shared web hosting, it’s currently very difficult to install a Let’sEncrypt certificate, so we don’t currently recommend using our certificates withGoDaddy. That’s because GoDaddy doesn’t support the ACME protocol for automatedcertificate issuance and renewal. Instead, GoDaddy offers automated renewal withtheir own certificates, which are an added-cost feature.

We don’t recommend using Let’s Encrypt certificates on hosting providers thatdon’t directly implement the ACME protocol, because it means you can’t fullyautomate renewals. We think automated renewals are a very important part ofusing certificates. Using software to automate renewal makes it much less likelythat your certificate will expire without being replaced. If your certificateexpires, it’s very frustrating for your users because they can’t access yoursite.

Because we believe so strongly in automated renewal, we design our certificatesto be used with ACME automation. A Let’s Encrypt certificate is meant to berenewed automatically after 60 days, and will stop working after 90 days if itisn’t renewed.
